Obama Closes Last US Light Bulb Factory Jobs Go to Mexico
12/10/10 23:50
So our wonderful socialistic government’s harsh restrictive policies on manufacturing close down yet another manufacturing plant and drive the operations (and the jobs) out of the U.S. into Mexico... It’s a good thing that we’re in the middle of a booming job bonanza or these ridiculous restrictions would cripple America’s economy! Oh wait, what was I thinking...
BTW, Congress and the President passed an energy bill in 2007 that effectively bans incandescent light bulbs. So if you don’t want to pay $40-$50 per lightbulb, you better start stocking up now.

Household incandescent bulbs to become obsolete

WINCHESTER -- General Electric's Winchester lamp plant closed its doors Friday, a victim of shifting consumer demand driven by new federal lighting efficiency standards.
The facility at 125 Apple Valley Road in Kernstown was GE's last U.S. plant for assembling household incandescent light bulbs, which are set to become obsolete by the end of the decade.
The closing affects 193 hourly and 10 salaried employees. The plant opened in 1975.
"Legislation requiring tougher energy standards, customers moving to more energy-efficient light bulbs and old technology being replaced with higher-technology light sources are driving a profound transformation in the lighting industry worldwide," Ron Wilson, general manager of GE Lighting's Global Supply Chain, says in a news release.
"As difficult as this action is because of the impact on employees, given these fundamental changes we have to take action now to reshape GE's lighting business," Wilson says.
Under the energy bill passed by Congress in December 2007, incandescent bulbs -- a technology largely unchanged since Thomas Edison first flipped a switch in his Menlo Park laboratory in New Jersey in 1879 -- will be phased out in the U.S., starting with 100-watt bulbs in 2012. Other wattages will soon follow.
In recent years, consumers have started buying electricity-sipping compact fluorescent bulbs, which produce far less heat and last up to 10 times longer than tungsten-filament bulbs. The majority of CFLs are manufactured in China.
GE considered retrofitting the Winchester lamp plant to produce more energy-efficient bulbs, but the move would not have been profitable, company officials said.
Even without the new regulations, Wilson says, the market for incandescent bulbs has declined by half over the past five years. Some of Winchester's products that are exempt from the legislation, such as three-way bulbs and appliance bulbs, will be consolidated at GE Lighting's plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
Thursday was the last day of production in Kernstown. On Friday, workers mostly gathered their belongings and said their good-byes, according to Janice Fraser, a spokeswoman with GE's Lighting division in Cleveland. By the afternoon, the visitors' entrance to the facility had been padlocked and only one gate was still open, with about 10 cars in the parking lot.
"Our Winchester employees have been a great workforce for our company," plant manager Joseph Cenin said. "The last year has been difficult, and I'm proud of each employee."
Since announcing the closing last summer, GE has done its best to help workers make a successful transition, Fraser said. All displaced employees will continue to receive medical, dental and life insurance coverage for up to one year, as well as thousands of dollars in tuition reimbursement for education and retraining, preferential job placement at other GE locations, and cash benefits, according to the company.
Richard Bell, principal broker with Adams Nelson & Associates in Winchester, has the listing on the property in Kernstown, which sits on a little over 57 acres. The asking price is $13 million.
Twelve Tactics of Taqiyya

As Christians, Jesus calls us to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. And it is important in this day and age to understand the threat of islam. Some people believe that islam is a different way to serve God. This is not true, for allah is a totally different god who demands vicious evil acts (that the real God forbids) against others in service to him.
It is therefore clear that islam is a demonic murderous cult of death and destruction in the service of the god of death and destruction. For example, Jesus says that loving God and our neighbors is what “all the Law and prophets hang upon”. Nowhere does islam or the koran even acknowledge either of these two principles, instead islam encourages killing all infidels and even other muslims. The killing just never ends with this death cult. Therefore, islam is not a religion, it is a mental illness.
Here is a lesson in taqiyya, the practice of lying to spread islam:
Twelve Tactics of Taqiyya
Most religions respect the truth and forbid lying. However Islam is different. Allah is "the best of deceivers" (Quran 3.54), and since the prime directive is to spread Islam by any means whatsoever, it should not be surprising that deceiving unbelievers is acceptable behavior if carried out for the benefit of Islam.
This "sacred deception" is known as taqiyya. It can take many forms, including outright lies, feigned moderation, and condemnations of terrorist attacks to the non-Muslims while celebrating the attacks with fellow Muslims. Here are some of the ploys, arguments, logical fallacies and diversionary tactics used by taqiyya tacticians:
1. Taqiyya about taqiyya. Muslims deny that taqiyya exists, or that it is used to deceive infidels. "There is no such thing as Taqiyya." Or "Taqiyya is something I never heard of and I had to go and look it up." See here and here for refutations.
2. Playing the race card and guilt by association. An accusation of racism is such a trump card that jihadists will play it whenever they can. Despite Islam not being a race, any criticism of Islam immediately gets the knee-jerk retaliation of "racism." For example, "You are expressing the same views about Islam as racists, therefore you are a racist." This is similar logic, "Communists believe two and two make four. You believe two and two make four. Therefore you are a Communist." Read more about why criticizing Islam is not a racist activity.
3. Godwin's Law.
CRITICISM OF ISLAM = RACISM = NAZISM
Therefore, if you criticise Islam you are a Nazi.
4. Circular reasoning. The Quran says it is the word of God. So whatever it says must be true. Therefore it is true that the Quran is the word of God because it says so.
5. The infidels' quotes from the Quran are always taken out of context. For example, "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them" is taken out of context, and really means "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them setting fire to your house" — or something similar. Read more about this objection. And also here.
6. Infidels can't understand the original Arabic of the Quran. So "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them" is actually a Medieval Arabic expression meaning "Help old ladies across busy streets and remember to feed the birds in winter."
7. Tu Quoque (you also). "We blow people up and behead them but you do the same." Normally this is used in attempts to refute arguments that Islam is intrinsically violent. Often people refer back to the Crusades, the Inquisition, etc. Also "There are equally nasty parts in the Bible." Yes, there are violent episodes in the Bible, but the Bible is descriptive of battles and massacres long ago, whereas the Quran is prescriptive of battles and massacres yet to come. Read more about this here. And here.
8. "Abrahamic and monotheistic faith" false kin argument. This scam usually takes the form of "Islam is just a further development of Christianity, a brother Abrahamic or monotheist faith." Of course it isn't. Islam is a travesty and perversion of Christianity in many respects, and Jesus would probably have advised the pedophile Mohammed to tie a millstone round his neck and jump into the sea (Mark 9:42). In Islam, stoning of women is still a major spectator sport, whereas Jesus forbade it (John 8:7). Human sacrifice is an abomination in Judaism and Christianity, but is encouraged in Islam. Read more about the differences in basic doctrine here.
9. Quoting abrogated verses from the Quran in order to appear moderate. A favorite one is "Let there be no compulsion in religion." This verse and many like it are actually null and void and disregarded by all Muslims (though not by gullible infidels). They are peaceful Meccan verses which are completely cancelled by later and much more violent Medinan verses. Read more about abrogation here. And here.
10. "You owe us a debt of gratitude because Islam is the basis of Western civilization." This sort of statement is usually backed up by revisionist arguments that Muslims invented everything and were responsible for the Renaissance. In some ways this is a rather pathetic quest for significance. Muslim culture has been moribund for the past 600 years, whereas the West has forged ahead. Muslims now want a stake in the success story by claiming they were somehow responsible for the West's development.
11. "A third of the world's population believe in Islam, so it deserves respect." But not so long ago a third of the world's population believed the earth was flat. Numbers don't mean anything, especially when the Islamic population is the most backward and illiterate on earth. Muslims are very keen on "respect," but someone should tell them that respect needs to be earned.
12. "We are victims of Islamophobia." Muslims are always playing the victim, if not of racism then of the even more heinous thought-crime of Islamophobia. Of course there is no such thing as Islamophobia, since a phobia is an irrational fear, whereas fear of Islam as a clear and present danger is a totally rational reaction from any infidel.

British Man arrested & jailed for "racist” movie theme ringtone in PC Gone Mad
Martin Smith’s movie theme ringtone landed him in trouble with the police.
A pandemic has hit Great Britain (and the Western world) and it's not the bird flu or the swine flu - it is a disease more infectious and vile. A disease that makes the host literally stupid - and that disease is Political Correctness. Political correctness is a festering boil of mind and thought control with the purpose of ending rational dialog by being particularly adept at shutting down disagreeing critics.
The media enables the metastasis of PCism by being complicent and is also guilty of inflicting political correctness on the masses. PC is often coupled with (false) accusations of "racism" or labelling the offender "racist" in order to muzzle any dissent and pave the way for the forced brainwashing of "acceptable" thought via 'sensitivity training'.
No surprise that Political Correctness and Islamisation of Britain & Europe has gone hand and hand. Dhimmified PCers in the British government, law enforcement and judiciary have paved the way for Islamization to fly into Britain and Europe on an Ali Baba magic carpet. Thus muslims are flocking in droves to Great Britain. And, on a daily basis, Sharia law creeps into everyday British life - and is an alarming harbinger of the decline of Britain.
So along comes the latest politically correct "offense" to be added to the ever growing list of Things that Offend Muslims - a cellphone ringtone:
MOVIE fan Martin Smith landed in court on a racism charge after he downloaded part of the soundtrack from the 1980s comedy film Rita, Sue and Bob Too! and installed it as a ringtone on his mobile.
Martin, of Holmewood, north Derbyshire, claims friends and workmates got used to hearing the voice of an Asian actor reciting the words "I can't help being a Paki…".
But a woman from a mixed race family wasn't amused when Martin's Nokia went off as she queued alongside him at a village shop.
Over-hearing the clip from the movie – which chronicles the exploits of two schoolgirls growing up on a rundown estate in Bradford – the woman went home and lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Officers arrested the 36-year-old at home two days later and locked him in the cells at Chesterfield for four hours before charging him with contravening race relation laws.
Angry warehouseman Martin hit out after magistrates fined him £191 with £85 costs for using racially aggravated threatening or insulting words or behaviour.
He said: "Arresting me was a total over-reaction - surely the police have better things to do with their time.
"If Channel 4 can put Rita, Sue and Bob Too! on TV all the time, as it does, then why can't I play a clip from the soundtrack on my phone?
"If it's good enough for prime time Tv then it ought to be good enough for me and my mobile.
"My ringtone wouldn't have suited everybody, but the film's my all time favourite. I've seen it 15 or 20 times and I should be able to download what I want without the police hauling me off to the cells and calling me a racist.
"I've had the ringtone for a year and nobody's ever complained. All my friends and workmates thought it was hilarious.
"I've got a lot of Asian friends, who've seen the film and they thought it was really funny as well.
"I wouldn't have minded if the police had taken me to the station and told me to get it changed.
"I get on really well with Asian people and the last thing I wanted to do was upset anyone. I just did it for a bit of fun because I love the film so much.
"I'll not be taking any chances with the ringtone in future though. I'll be sticking to plinky plonky music like everyone else from now on."
The court was told the unnamed woman, who was from a mixed African-Mediterranean background, overheard the ringtone while she was waiting to be served at the grocery store near Smith's home in Holmewood.
Jon Barber, defending, said his client denied making a racist remark in front of the complainant, but accepted the woman may have been offended by the ringtone.
"He thought it was amusing – but it's a lesson learned."
Shopkeeper Geoff Wallage said the woman had made no complaint to his staff at the time.
"I feel very sorry for Martin, he's a really decent bloke with a great sense of humour and he didn't deserve all this trouble. I feel that it's been a complete waste of public money. They should have told Martin to swap his ringtone and left it at that, instead of dragging him to court.
"I've got a Pakistani accountant and he couldn't believe it when I explained what had happened. It's just ridiculous.”
